Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between an air cooler and an air conditioner?

The main difference between these two products is their cooling power. While air coolers can reduce your room’s temperature by a maximum of a few degrees, an air conditioner allows you to achieve your desired temperature that you have set on the unit’s thermostat. An air cooler does not need to be vented outside but works using cold water or ice. There is more to consider when deciding between an air cooler and an air conditioner, which our guide covers in more detail.

How much does it cost to run an air cooler?

Air coolers are very energy efficient. For example this Honeywell 10L air cooler unit will cost you around 3p per hour, or this Symphony 40L unit will cost you around 4p per hour (these prices are based on the April 2024 price cap).

Do air coolers require any ducting?

No, air coolers don’t require any ducting. They can be placed anywhere, ideally by an open window.

Do air coolers need to be near a window?

For optimal use, the best position for your air cooler is in front of an open window. However, an air cooler can be positioned near a plug socket anywhere in the room.
